“Think global, act local” is designed to remind individuals to take personal responsibility for environmental issues.
Former Vice President Al Gore certainly took the “think global” part of the saying to heart after leaving office, winning an Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth and sharing the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his “efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change."

But what about “acting local”? In the accompanying video, the former VP addresses the question of whether he’s walking the walk in his personal life.
“My home has one of the highest possible ratings on environmental efficiency,” he says, listing its attributes such as solar panels and geothermal wells. “I use only zero carbon, carbon-free electricity and energy.”
For transportation, Gore admits to “sometimes” chartering a private jet but he doesn’t own one, claims to be a “regular" on Southwest Airlines (LUV) and flew to NY last week on American Airlines to promote The Climate Reality Project’s 24-hour webcast, The Cost of Carbon. "Every once in a while I charter but I use public transit and commercial airlines,” he says.
For more local trips, Gore has two Lexus hybrids and – like many others – has his eye on the new Tesla (TSLA) Model S. “I haven’t gotten one yet…my friend Elon Musk and his team have done a terrific job on that.”
Gore certainly can afford a Tesla – his net worth tops $200 million, according to Bloomberg and he was an early investor in the company, whose shares have surged over 500% in the past two years.
